The Sanibel Island rice rat is among 374 plants and animals in the southeastern United States that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service determined last month need a closer

look at whether they should be listed as an endangered species.

The rare animal that scientists say lives only on Sanibel is mostly nocturnal and does its best to stay out of the open and out of the way.

This secretive little creature could be finally on its way to the big time. Little is know about this furry little creature.
