The Scrub Mint is on the U.S. Endangered Species List. It is classified as endangered in Florida.
This plant is found only along the Lake Wales Ridge in central Florida, but not abundantly.
The ridge provides the sand-pine-scrub habitat for this plant, but the habitat has been greatly
altered by urban development. Additionally, Scrub Mint requires open, sunny conditions, which
means that its future depends on the removal of trees and other vegetation that might cause
too much shading. Wildfires once naturally performed this service in the now heavily populated area.
